J&P-Bautechnik Vertriebs GmbH donates 10,000 EUR thanks to your help
The organisation Architekten über Grenzen e.V. (Architects Beyond Borders) was founded in Berlin in 1997. Its members help other aid organisations in an honorary capacity when they need planning or construction support with their foreign aid projects and cannot find professional support locally in the crisis region. The goal – as far as possible – is always to involve local professional people. Together with "German Doctors e.V.", the organisation Architekten über Grenzen e.V. is currently helping with the conversion of the Serabu Community Hospital in Sierra Leone in West Africa. The Serabu Community Hospital, founded in 1954 by Irish nuns, was well known far beyond the region's borders due to its good work. However, it was completely destroyed during the civil war in Sierra Leone (1991 to 2002) and could only be rebuilt between 2006 and 2008 with aid from the EU. It was reopened in 2009. The German Doctors are currently working in the hospital to advance the training and further education of the local doctors and nurses. The focus is on surgery, obstetrics, children's medicine and anaesthesia. During the serious Ebola epidemic in 2014 and 2015 in West Africa, the Serabu Community Hospital was one of the few hospitals in Sierra Leone that was continuously open and had a German doctor in residence. Between March 2013 and April 2014, Architekten über Grenzen e.V. was on site a total of three times with expert personnel and, amongst other things, converted the "Sterilizer Department", renovated the pharmacy and erected a medicines store, as well as planning and building accommodation for the doctors. So that support can continue to be guaranteed, J&P-Bautechnik Vertriebs GmbH was delighted to contribute and symbolically handed over a cheque on 6 May 2015. A film on the work of German Doctors e.V. at the Serabu Community Hospital can be found here.
