PFEIFER is involved in the construction of the largest tunneling project in Austria
One of the most important major infrastructure projects
The Semmering Base Tunnel is currently one of the most important infrastructure projects in the heart of Europe. With a total length of 27.3 kilometers, the railway tunnel connects Lower Austria and Styria.
One of the largest tunneling construction sites
On the intermediate tunnel access Göstritz at one of the largest tunneling construction sites in Austria, the winding machines of Albatros Engineering GmbH from Herzogsdorf are equipped with ropes of PFEIFER Seil- und Hebetechnik from Asten.
Ropes and special end fittings from PFEIFER
PFEIFER supplied ropes from PFEIFER DRAKO with diameters of 43 millimeters and lengths of 650 meters, as well as further ropes with diameters of 17 millimeters and 14 millimeters and lengths of 350 meters. The special end fittings were also provided by PFEIFER and casted at the construction site. PFEIFER supplied spare part packages for each set of ropes.
Commissioning is planned fort he first quarter of 2018
PFEIFER Asten has also been appointed to supply the ropes and end connections for the construction sections Grautschenhof in Styria. Delivery and commissioning of Albatros winding machines is planned for the first quarter of 2018.
Completion in 2026
The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) expects to complete this project and start the traffic in 2026.
