In the trial, a load is lifted and lowered by a rope winch under fully automatic control. The test rope is wound onto the rope winch in several layers. When lowering the load, the drive works as a generator, feeding the electrical energy back into the grid. The trials are run around the clock, operating for 24 hours a day. Performance of comparative trials with rotation-resistant, extremely rotation-resistant and non-rotation-free ropes in order to obtain accurate information about the service life and winding characteristics of commercially available ropes and to be able to compare the effects of the various rope properties. Development trials with new rope developments, fibre ropes, new drum systems, half-shells and other alternatives are performed continuously. On the basis of the knowledge gained we can, for example, determine the suitability of ropes for multi-layer winding, required primarily for mobile and revolving tower cranes, and select the optimum rope for manufacturers and operators.
